Edin Dzeko, Stevan Jovetic not under pressure to leave Man City - sources

Manchester City will not force Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic to find new clubs, sources told ESPN FC.

Both forwards have attracted interest from Italy after they lost their places in Manuel Pellegrini's team last season and their departures could raise funds to help the Chilean rebuild his team.

But although City, who have a full quota of 17 non-homegrown players, need to sell some of their foreign players or omit them from the squad they register if they are to bring in transfer targets such as Paul Pogba and Kevin De Bruyne, they will not tell Dzeko and Jovetic they must go.

Dzeko has emerged as a target for Roma after a campaign when he failed to take the field in any of City's final six matches, only scored twice in his last 23 appearances and lost his place in the striking pecking order to January signing Wilfried Bony.

The 29-year-old's Bosnia teammate Miralem Pjanic has said he would go "running" to Roma but Dzeko's agent, Irfan Redzepagic, said earlier this week that his client does not want to leave City.

Dzeko is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2018 after signing a four-year deal in August and there is appreciation at the club for his achievements over his four-and-a-half years in Manchester.

The former Wolfsburg forward, who cost £27 million when he joined in 2011, played an influential part in their 2012 and 2014 Premier League title wins and has scored 71 goals in 185 games for the club.
In contrast, Jovetic has only started 11 league games in two injury-hit seasons at the Etihad Stadium since his £22 million move from Fiorentina in 2013.

The Montenegrin was the man omitted from City's Champions League squad for the knockout stages of last season's competition, when they were limited to 16 non-homegrown players as part of their punishment for failing UEFA's financial fair play tests, a decision that he said "killed" him.

The 25-year-old only made two substitute appearances in the final three months of the season but retains admirers in Italy, with Inter Milan reportedly keenest to sign him.

Jovetic turned down Juventus to join City and the Bianconeri have shown an interest in him during his stay in England while AC Milan have also been linked with him.
